Mercy For All

Serving the poor and those who work with them

Life gets too full sometimes, and all of us lose touch with what’s most important, what makes us most deeply human and most fully alive.  Time at Mercy Center invites us to step away and re-discover Life in all of its abundance.

At Mercy Center, we believe that shouldn’t be just a luxury for those who can afford it financially but an opportunity for everyone.  That’s why we’ve created Mercy For All.  It’s an opportunity for groups of the materially poor or the professionals who work with them to relax, reflect, re-connect, and re-energize . . . all in Mercy Center’s magnificent oceanfront setting.

What’s available through Mercy For All?

At no charge to participants, Mercy For All offers:

  • Day-long, overnight and multi-day programs for groups of the materially poor.
  • Sabbaticals lasting from one day to one month for professionals working with the materially poor.

Individuals working with the materially poor arrange stays at Mercy Center for themselves or their groups through the program office, based on availability.  Mercy For All participants can choose to spend their time totally on their own (resting, reading, reflecting, etc.), bring in their own programming, or use Mercy Center’s program staff to design a program that works for them.  Regardless of the length or structure of the program, Mercy For All participation is free of charge.

Who can participate in Mercy For All?

Any group of persons who are materially poor (people experiencing homelessness, depending on soup kitchens, struggling with chronic unemployment, etc.) or the professionals who work with them (case workers, advocates, etc.) who would otherwise be unable to afford to take advantage of Mercy Center.  Examples of groups who have participated in Mercy For All to date include:

• McAuley Village: Transitional Housing and Services for Families in Need, Providence, RI
• Turning Point Foundation: Clean and Sober Residential Living, New Haven, CT
• Thomas Merton Center, Bridgeport, CT
• Dorothy Day Catholic Worker, Washington, DC
• St. Martin de Porres Academy faculty, New Haven, CT
• Trust House, Hartford, CT
