Fall Appeal 2008 - Renovations Announcement
October 2008
Dear Friend,
“After my husband died, Mercy Center really helped me put my life back together.”
“I made my decision to become an Episcopal priest during some time away at Mercy Center. There was something about the environment . . . the ocean, the quiet . . . that just helped me believe it was the right decision.”
If you are like many of our visitors, you come to Mercy Center for comfort and for transformation. Now, it’s time for Mercy Center to transform itself.
As you know, the Sisters of Mercy sponsor Mercy Center and they own the land and the buildings. It’s time, the Sisters have decided, to create a more comfortable and ecologically sensitive Mercy Center.
So over the next few months, a major renovation project will begin to update the physical plant. The vision is for a smaller, updated center that will focus even more on retreats and programs. To the delight of our future guests, the current plan is to ensure that all bedrooms will have private baths and waterfront views.
In the meantime, we will be under construction for the next two years. As a result, beginning in January, bedroom space will be limited to the SeaScape house. Importantly, we will continue to have programs and to host outside groups during the day in our conference rooms.
Renovations, of course, are expensive, especially since in the near future we will be limited in the number of overnight groups we can accommodate. That is why we are asking for your generosity in a special way this year. We can use every dollar to sustain our mission until renovations are complete. Please be as generous as you can and keep us in your prayers as we make decisions for the future of Mercy Center. We look forward to sharing a new Mercy Center with you - a Mercy Center even more welcoming and more supportive to you on your own journey. Please join us in supporting Mercy Center during this exciting time of change and renewal.
As always, thank you for your past support and for the gifts that you continue to give us.
In gratitude and in peace,
Jim Emswiler Elizabeth McClelland Executive Director Chair, Board of Trustees
